Noah's Ark

 NOAH'S ARK

As we researched the need in the Wapato area, we found  our options were limited in providing a place. One of the new board members David Hacker, found a building and purchased it for the homeless shelter. As we moved forward we needed a name for the shelter. David's wife sherri Noah had just passed away. David told us she always wanted an ark where she could help people. So after some deliberation we decided to call it Noah's ark in memory of Sherri Noah.

He donated the use of the building for 3 years. Then promised 5 years if we replaced the roof, which we have now done. As we continue to provide hospitality to those who are homeless we hope to be honoring Sherri's memory by continueing her work, in the way she would be proud of.

Noah's Ark is a Homeless Shelter located in Wapato Washington.

Noah's Ark is considered phase one: We are a low barrier Shelter. That means we except them as they are. We do not put many limitations on those who come through our door. Most of those who come through our doors, no longer have any place to call home. They are broken souls of an unwelcome city where they have been born, where they have friends and family.

Noah's Ark welcomes those with our open arms, where they can find someone who cares about them and what happens to them.

Noah's Ark offers to them a place to meet their basic needs, with meals, a place to sleep that is out of the climates, a place to shower, a place to recieve mail, a place family can look for them, cloths to dress in, a place they feel is home.

Pathway to responsibility and recovery:

Resident's have become a supportive community with in a community. One of the best examples of this supportive community is the way they care for one another during dificult times. They make sure that needs are met.

Many pitch in to help prepare meals and the other many chores we have that need to be done on a daily basis. Some become volunteer staff suppervising daily operation.

Taking on these responsibilities are not easy and they carry a heavy burden.

All staff personal are volunteers.

Staff has been instumental in helping many become clean and sober. Have given rides to needed appointments, recieve emergency treatment, comforting those greiving the death of loved ones, meeting basic needs, get jobs, get into housing, food, clothing.
